Definition
WHM (WebHost Manager) is a server-administration interface, built by the makers of cPanel, that lets hosting providers and resellers create, configure, and manage multiple cPanel accounts on a single server.
Overview
While cPanel is the interface individual website owners use to manage their own hosting account, WHM operates one layer up: it's the tool a hosting company or reseller uses to administer the server itself and provision cPanel accounts on top of it. From WHM, an administrator can create new hosting packages, allocate disk and bandwidth quotas, manage server-wide security settings, install SSL certificates, and monitor overall server health. WHM is what makes reseller hosting possible — a hosting reseller can use WHM to spin up individually branded, isolated cPanel accounts for their own customers, each with its own resource limits, without those customers ever needing server-level access. It also handles bulk operations like server-wide backups, package templates, and DNS zone management across every hosted domain on the machine. Because WHM and cPanel are developed and licensed together by WebPros, they're typically deployed as a pair on Shared Hosting, VPS Hosting, and Dedicated Server Hosting environments, competing with alternative admin-level panels like DirectAdmin.
