Overview
Most performance-monitoring tools stop at the edge of infrastructure a company owns: its own servers, containers, or application code. ThousandEyes addresses the layer beyond that boundary — the public internet, ISP backbones, DNS resolution, CDN edges, and third-party SaaS platforms that a modern application depends on but has no direct control over. When a checkout page slows down and the application servers look healthy, the cause is frequently somewhere in that outside layer, and without visibility there it is difficult to prove where the fault lies or who is responsible for fixing it. The platform works by running lightweight software agents from vantage points around the world — cloud regions, ISP networks, enterprise offices, and even end-user browsers via a browser extension. Many organizations run both, correlating an application-level alert from an APM tool with a ThousandEyes path trace to determine whether the root cause is internal code, an internal network, or an external provider. In practice, network operations and IT teams use ThousandEyes to monitor SaaS applications like Microsoft 365 or Salesforce for degradation before end users complain, to validate SD-WAN and internet circuit performance across branch offices, and to produce evidence for vendor and ISP escalations by showing exactly where packet loss occurred.
