Overview
A network switch's job is to receive data arriving from one connected device and forward it to the correct destination device on the same network, rather than broadcasting it everywhere, which keeps a local network efficient as more devices join it. Cisco Catalyst has been one of the most widely deployed switch product lines used to build the wired backbone of office and campus networks, connecting everything from individual desks to wireless access points to server rooms. Enterprises frequently pair Catalyst switches with Cisco's other networking products, such as routers and wireless controllers, for a unified vendor ecosystem that simplifies training, support contracts, and troubleshooting.
